Check a Swiss company by its UID number

When a new B2B customer signs up, three questions come back every time: does the company exist? What is its exact legal name? Is its address up to date? The official answer is in the commercial register (Zefix). We synchronise it every night: about 800,000 companies with their UID, legal form, registered office and purpose.

The use case

Take a fiduciary that receives dozens of new mandates every week. Without an API, an employee copies each UID into Zefix and retypes the fields. With the API, their software calls our API when the UID is entered and pre-fills the customer record.

Search by UID

The UID is written CHE-138.647.564; the API expects it without dashes or dots:

A count of 0 means no active company has this UID: the signal for a manual check.

Search by name

If the user types a name instead of a UID, the search parameter ranks results by relevance (exact name, then name prefix, then content):

Keep records up to date

Companies change their names and move. Our database follows these changes every night, and struck-off companies disappear. A monthly check of your customer records by UID is enough to detect a change.

Good to know

• Searching by UID is exact and fast: it is the best identifier.
• The data is published by the Federal Office of Justice; it does not replace a certified register extract.
• The free plan (100 requests per day) is enough to test; commercial use requires a paid plan.
