'Law enforcement' has a wider meaning than 'prosecution', encompassing the police force and other members of the executive branch of government charged with carrying out and enforcing criminal law. 'Prosecution authority' is used in the Swiss Criminal Procedure Code to mean a.) the police; b.), the public prosecutor; c.) the authorities responsible for prosecuting contraventions. However, in a non-Swiss context, 'prosecution authority' could imply a single government agency responsible for prosecuting criminal cases that have already been investigated by the police, but not the police force itself, e.g. the Crown Prosecution Service in the UK. In a non-Swiss context (e.g. EU context) it may be better to use the less specific term 'law enforcement authority'.
