Système constitutionnel qui a été adopté en Suisse, suivant le modèle américain, en 1848 lors de la création de l'État fédéral helvétique et dans lequel le Parlement est composé de deux Chambres dotées des mêmes compétences, le Conseil national, ou grande Chambre, représentant le peuple, et le Conseil des États, ou petite Chambre, représentant les cantons.
