- The term 'water stewardship' encompasses the responsible and considerate use of water that is simultaneously socially and culturally equitable, ecologically sustainable and economically beneficial. Good water stewardship is achieved through a participative process which involves all stakeholders and incorporates both location-specific measures as well as those at the level of water catchment areas. This means companies understand their impact on water and water dependencies as well as the risks involved, not just in their direct operations, but also across the entire value chain. They assume their share of overall responsibility for the ecological, social and economic areas in which they operate.
